The Doug Melanson Park...

Named in honour of the highly respected long time caretaker of the school, will be constructed on the site of the Milton School, boarded by Brunswick, Elm and Huntington Streets. It is a joint 50/50 partnership of the Town of Yarmouth and the Milton Improvement Society.

The Town will be providing $50,000 for the hardscaping and the Doug Melanson Park Committee and the Milton Improvement Society will look to raise $50,000 for plantings, lighting, seating, signage, etc. Construction will begin in summer 2017.

Designed for minimum maintenance and composed of 50% native plants, it will be an environmentally progressive park appealing to all ages, with wide pathways for use by strollers or wheelchairs. It will feature a central grassy oval with 3 play mounds for children to enjoy and there will areas for various types of seating and activities.

The two schools that stood on the site dating back to 1864, were attended by whole families and generations, close bounds of friendship were formed over the years and continue to this day. We appeal to past students, teachers and current residents to help make this park a reality.

Through the newly formed "Community Assets Donation Program", the Town of Yarmouth will issue tax receipts for any donations of $25 or more. Please click DONATE for more information.
